Cameroon Mangrove Project | Social Impact Credits

This project led by REFACOF (The African Women’s Network for Community Management of Forests) restores critical ecosystems, including mangroves, while advancing women’s empowerment through income-generating activities, leadership training, and advocacy. Women are equipped with technical, negotiation, and market-access skills that strengthen their role in forest management and influence policies on land tenure and gender equity. Activities include agroforestry for food, livestock, and land security; capacity building for mangrove restoration; and support for women fisherfolk in preserving and marketing fish. Solar-powered fish drying technology reduces emissions and enhances livelihoods, while income from selling dried fish strengthens household economies. By linking environmental restoration with women’s leadership and entrepreneurship, the program delivers tangible climate adaptation and mitigation benefits alongside long-term social impact.
